Study: Too many barriers to MOUD for those incarcerated in jails

Researchers have found that out of the 1,243 jails nationwide with medications for opioid use disorder, 65.3% provided buprenorphine, 52.0% provided naltrexone, 45.0% provided methadone, and 27.6% provided all three medications – the only approved medications to treat opioid use disorder. Availability of MOUD was associated with urbanicity, location in a Medicaid expansion state, county opioid overdose rate, and county social vulnerability.
