The twilight of free media in Hungary – the role of civic journalism and the progressive subjection of the media to the authorities by the Fidesz party

The aim of the article is to scrutinize the evolution of civic journalism in the recent years, as well as presenting its nature. The author decided to illustrate the issues related to civic journalism using the example of the description of the protests in Hungary. The protests are already an integral part of the fight for free and independent media, whose activities have been effectively limited since 2010, i.e. from the moment when Viktor Orban's Fidesz party took power. The article is the first synthetic discussion in Polish scientific literature of the ongoing liberation process of the media from the power of the Fidesz party in Hungary.
