Family Life Preparation: A Qualitative Study on Females with Marital Readiness
Marriage is a new chapter in an individual’s life. The Law No. 1 of 1974 explains that marriage is a physical and spiritual bond between a man and a woman as husband and wife, with the goal of establishing a happy and lasting family life based on faith in God Almighty. Through marriage, individuals are expected to create a harmonious family, filled with love and mutual responsibility for their roles. Before entering into marriage, individuals are expected to prepare themselves. This research explored the challenges of individual readiness for marriage before entering married life by involving individuals with marital readiness. The researchers analyzed the data using key themes that pertain to every individual readiness for marriage. The research findings indicate an understanding of wedding preparations, the efforts involved, the objectives or expectations for the ceremony, emotional readiness and conflict resolution, physical readiness, financial preparedness, and the family’s role in preparing for married life. Research suggests the importance of premarital counseling for engaged couples to help partners develop skills in conflict management and effective communication, enabling them to adjust to more realistic expectations regarding marriage.
