SENTIMENTOS VIVENCIADOS PELOS FAMILIARES DE CRIANÇAS COM FISSURAS OROFACIAIS EM SITUAÇÃO CIRÚRGICA PEDIÁTRICA

Introduction: Orofacial clefts are the most common non-syndromic craniofacial malformations, resulting from a failure in the fusion of the structural process of the lip and/or palate, which can be unilateral, median or bilateral. Cleft lip and/or palate is a public health issue, as it is one of the most common malformations affecting the face. Guiding question: What are the feelings of family members after having to undergo the corrective surgical procedure of palatoplasty and cheiloplasty? Objective: To analyze the perceptions of family members of children with orofacial clefts undergoing surgery. Methodology: This is an exploratory study with a qualitative approach, seeking to delve deeper into this subject which has been little explored in the literature. The data collected will be obtained through conversations with the participants, which will allow for an in-depth understanding and interpretation of the interviewees' experiences. The study will be carried out from the moment the family member arrives at the operating room of a University Hospital located in Rio de Janeiro. Results: The results showed that the diagnosis causes a profound emotional impact, marked by feelings of shock, sadness and, in some cases, guilt, especially when the diagnosis occurs after birth, without prior preparation. Discussion: the importance of emotional support and a multidisciplinary approach in caring for children with orofacial clefts and their families was highlighted. Previous studies confirm that a team made up of psychologists, speech therapists and surgeons is essential to help family members adapt, strengthen the emotional bond and reduce stress throughout the treatment. Conclusion: concluded that continuous psychological support and reception policies are fundamental for the well-being of families, and suggested the development of informative materials and professional training for a humanized approach. Such measures aim to reduce the impact of the diagnosis and provide a more welcoming environment for children's development.
