Deep deterministic policy gradient for volt-var control

The stability and efficiency of power distribution systems are crucial, especially with the growing use of renewable energy sources and emerging grid challenges. To address the Volt-Var Control (VVC) problem, our study proposes a novel approach using the Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (DDPG) algorithm - a powerful reinforcement learning technique. By utilizing DDPG, our method aims to learn adaptive control policies for regulating voltage levels in distribution networks and optimizing system performance in dynamic and uncertain operating conditions. Our approach has been extensively tested through simulations and real-world deployment, which showcase its ability to learn robust and effective volt-var control strategies that adapt to changing system dynamics and environmental conditions. This promising solution, which harnesses the strengths of reinforcement learning and deep neural networks, offers significant potential for enhancing power distribution systems' stability, reliability, and resilience in the transition to a sustainable energy future.
