Frequency offset optimization in frequency diverse array radar: a genetic algorithm approach for improved anti-jamming performance
Traditional phased array radars effectively suppress sidelobe interference but struggle with mainlobe interference. Frequency Diverse Array (FDA) radar, with its range-dependent beam pattern due to frequency offsets at each element, offers a solution to mainlobe interference. However, linear FDA radars introduce range-angle coupling, which can be eliminated using random frequency offsets. This paper presents a method for mainlobe interference suppression in FDA beamforming, using the peak sidelobe ratio in the range dimension as the objective function. Through optimization, the optimal random frequency offsets are generated to concentrate beam energy within the target range, while the MVDR criterion is applied for adaptive beamforming to suppress angle-dependent interference. Simulation results show effective mainlobe interference suppression, with strong anti-jamming capabilities. This approach has significant potential for radar and communication systems.
