Via-Free Dual-Polarized Angle-Selective Surface

In this letter, a 2-D angle-selective structure with via-free structure is proposed. Compared with most conventional 3-D angle-selective structures containing metallic vias, the proposed via-free structure simplifies the fabrication process while maintaining the dual-polarized angle-selective performance. The proposed metasurface consists of grid structures and cross-dipole structures. The angle-selective performance of the single-layer structure under TM-polarization can be improved by adding a cross-dipole structure around the grid structure. Based on this situation, an equivalent transmission line model is used to analyze the performance of the entire structure. Dual-polarized angular selectivity can be achieved by connecting two identical single-layer structures with a suitable air gap. Simulated results show that a passband of |S21| > -1 dB can be achieved for angles of incidence less than 20°, while a stopband of |S21| < -15 dB can be achieved for angles larger than 47° at around 10 GHz. A prototype of the proposed angle-selective surface(ASS) is fabricated and measured. The measured results are in good agreement with the simulated results.
