Disorders of the antioxidant defense system of the organism in periodontitis and the use of various types of removable prosthetic constructions
In 20-70% of patients, inflammatory reactions of the mucous membrane and the periodontal complex are observed, associated with the use of removable dentures made of basic plastics. The aim of our research was to investigate the disruption of the antioxidant defense system in rats with experimental periodontitis and the influence of various types of removable prosthetic constructions. Experimental studies were conducted on white male rats. Periodontitis was simulated using a ligature method, and animals were divided into control and experimental groups with different prosthetic materials (acrylic, nylon, combined). On day 14, biochemical analysis of blood serum was performed to assess malondialdehyde (MDA), catalase, superoxide dismutase (SOD), and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) levels. The results indicated that acrylic dentures induced the greatest imbalance in antioxidant status, while nylon and combined materials showed significantly milder effects. These findings support the necessity of selecting optimal prosthetic materials to minimize oxidative stress in the oral cavity.
