EFFICACY OF ANTIAGGREGANT AND IMMUNOSUPPRESSIVE THERAPY FOR PREVENTION THE DEVELOPMENT OF NEOINTIMAL HYPERPLASIA OF ARTERIOVENOUS ANASTOMOSES IN RABBITS
The effectiveness of usage of antiaggregant and immunosuppressive therapy for prevention the development of neointimal hyperplasia of arteriovenous anastomoses site was studied. The study was carried on rabbits that were intraoperatively intravenously injected with 1000 IU of heparin and formed an arteriovenous anastomosis on the ear. 7 days after, they were divided into 4 groups: control (0.9% NaCl), immunosuppressant (prednisone 1 mg/kg), antiaggregant (acetylsalicylic acid 10 mg/kg), and combined (prednisone + acetylsalicylic acid). On day 21, vessel specimens were collected and histological analysis was performed to determine neointima thickness and neointimal area. Combined therapy group showed the lowest values of neointimal thickening and area compared to others. The obtained results confirm the higher efficacy of combination of antiaggregant and immunosuppressive drugs in prevention of neointimal hyperplasia at the site of arteriovenous anastomosis.
