Anthropological realism: Ethics for the whole human
This paper summarises the main ideas of Anthropological realism: Ethics for a global world (2024), which I cowrote with Professor Clifford G. Christians. It proposes a holistic and humane theory of ethics for a global world. The theory attempts to overcome the dualisms 1 that bedevil thinking about ethics. The paper reviews the pendulum of ethical thought in the West due to the dualism between realisms and anti-realisms.It presents the general approaches of anthropological realism and examines the notions of ethics for the whole human and global humanism. The paper concludes by discussing how ethics was made possible by the evolution of humans as philosophical animals -a species with a distinct capacity for science, morality, aesthetics and the construction of worldviews.
