Gene flow network of four major pigments and role of LcmiR2111-KFB14 in pericarp browning of litchi during storage
In the present study, the storability and contents of major pigments in three litchi cultivars were evaluated. A gene flow network of four key pigments across three litchi cultivars was constructed based on transcriptome data. The expression levels of genes involved in the biosynthesis of carotenoids , chlorophylls, and betalains exhibited diverse degrees of attenuation. Conversely, genes involved in the initial stages of the flavonoids/anthocyanins biosynthetic pathway were upregulated, whereas those catalyzing the later stages of flavonoids/anthocyanins biosynthesis were downregulated. An integrative analysis of transcriptome and degradome data revealed that the ubiquitin system played pivotal roles in the senescence process of litchi. A total of 20 LcKFB protein coding genes belonging to SCF E3 ligase family were comprehensively characterized. Additionally, a novel LcmiR2111 - KFB14 module was identified and validated, which significantly contributed to delaying the senescence and browning of litchi. • Gene flow network of four key pigments in three litchi cultivars was constructed. • LcKFBs plays positive roles in delaying litchi pericarp browning. • LcKFB14 was firstly identified and validated as the target of LcmiR2111 .
