SOME BIOCHEMICAL PARAMETERS IN SERA OF COVID-19 PATIENTS
COVID-19, caused by SARS-CoV-2, poses global health concerns and challenges to healthcare systems, impacting respiratory and other physiological functions within the human body.To reveal the relationship between infection with COVID-19 and the appearance of some biochemical changes in the blood of infected people, contributing valuable insights into the physiological changes associated with the viral infection, this study was conducted. In this study, a total of 100 blood samples were collected, comprising 50 samples from patients diagnosed with COVID-19, obtained from hospitals in Duhok, specifically the Burns and Plastic Surgery Hospital and the Lalaf Hospital. The remaining 50 samples were collected from healthy university staff as well as healthy patient companions to serve as the control group. These blood samples underwent rigorous biological evaluations, where researchers meticulously analyzed a comprehensive set of biochemical indicators. The study found that COVID-19 patients had significantly lower total protein (TP), albumin (ALB), glutathione (GSH), and total antioxidant activity(TOA) levels compared to the control group. The patients group had significantly higher C-reactive protein (CRP) levels, higher troponin levels, higher lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels and higher creatine kinase-MB (CK-MB) levels. The study reveals that COVID-19 significantly affects biochemical parameters in infected individuals, including decreased protein and albumin levels, increased inflammatory markers, cardiac
