Effects of carrier material on regeneration behavior of wall-flow catalyzed diesel particulate filters
In this paper, we apply a two-dimensional mathematical model of soot combustion to investigate the influence of carrier material on the regeneration process of wall-flow catalyzed diesel particulate filters (DPFs). The numerical results indicate that the SIC DPF heats up more slowly during both the preheating stage and soot oxidation due to its higher volumetric heat capacity compared to the cordierite DPF. The cordierite DPF exhibits a higher peak temperature during regeneration and requires a shorter time to achieve an 85% soot conversion rate compared to the SiC DPF. During the regeneration of both the SIC DPF and the cordierite DPF, no propagating combustion front is observed, which is consistent with the characteristics of a mild regeneration mode.
