Cyber Risk Activity and Potential Psychological Problems for Online Social Network Users in Indonesia
OSN, or Online Social Network, is a social network widely used by contemporary society to interact with each other. Various OSNs, such as Instagram, X, and TikTok, are frequently used in Indonesia. Using various OSNs often causes security problems for the internet society in Indonesia, such as fraud, increased violence, increased crime, and threats. Apart from these phenomena, some activities have the potential to cause psychological problems, such as cyberbullying and flexing. This research tries to find the relationship between the psychological problems of cyber security and cyber risk activity due to the psychological conditions of OSN users. The method used to collect data is using news content analysis. The research data is from news tabulations regarding psychological cases related to the use of OSN in Indonesia in 2022–2023. Next, the data is analyzed based on the feature functions available in OSN regarding whether certain feature functions support certain psychological problems. This research found that, in general, OSN users can experience psychological problems due to low sovereignty and cyber security when using OSN. Some online behaviors can implicate psychological problems, including bullying and narcissism due to cyber sovereignty issues, as well as fraud or phishing in cyber security issues. Various factors that cause bullying and fraud are also caused by problems with the sovereignty of the internet society, such as the tendency to be careless when using social media, the tendency to comment freely, the tendency to show off oneself, the tendency to share one's identity with the public, and the tendency to get more attention. This research proposes that the government and service providers should conduct outreach and education to the internet society in Indonesia.
