Design and Development of a Blockchain-Based Digital Diploma Verification System Using the STRIDE Threat Model Approach: A Case Study at Pusdatin of Ministry XYZ
Blockchain technology has been proposed as a solution to address document forgery, particularly in educational diplomas. This research focuses on developing a blockchain-based digital diploma verification system, utilizing the STRIDE threat model to identify and mitigate vulnerabilities. However, challenges were encountered in integrating blockchain with decentralized storage, such as ensuring the security of off-chain diploma data stored in Pinata IPFS and managing user accessibility. Additionally, the need for seamless interaction between the blockchain and traditional verification processes posed technical complexities. Pinata IPFS is used as decentralized file storage for diplomas, ensuring secure and reliable access. Each uploaded diploma receives a unique CID stored on the blockchain, allowing third parties to easily verify the authenticity of the diploma. The study found that blockchain effectively prevents diploma forgery through its immutable, transparent, and traceable nature, and user acceptance testing rated the system as “Very Satisfied”. Additionally, STRIDE's approach successfully secured the system, with no high or medium-risk vulnerabilities found in OWASP ZAP scans.
