SISTEMA PRISIONAL BRASILEIRO
The purpose of this article is to identify the situation of the Brazilian prison system with its main problems, showing the destructuring of the prison system and the neglect of prevention and rehabilitation of inmates by public policies. The prison system is in a moment of extreme abandonment in the face of the current scenario, with a sharp increase in violence and, on the other hand, precarious prison overcrowding. The prison system is governed by the Penal Execution Law (LEP), which provides in its art. 88 that the sentence must be served in an individual cell, with a minimum area of six square meters. Overcrowding in the prison system is one of the biggest problems, which hinders any possibility of any type of resocialization and assistance to the prison population, which leads to constant rebellions.
