EFFECT OF YOGA ON TYPE-2 DIABETES MELLITUS IN BOKAJAN BLOCK KARBI ANGLONG

This study investigates at how long-term community engagement in yoga affects the disease control status of Type-2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) patients in Bokajan Block, Karbi Anglong. A total of 240 patients with T2DM were chosen from the Bokajan Community Health Centre (CHC) and five Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs) spread over 14 locations in Bokajan Block. The participants were separated into two groups: experimental (n = 120) and control (n = 120). The experimental group participated in a threemonth organized yoga intervention program that focused on asanas (postures), pranayama (breathing exercises), and meditation to improve glycemic control and general well-being. The control group did not take part in the yoga sessions but continued with their usual medical therapy. Both groups provided baseline data, which included fasting blood glucose (FBG), postprandial blood glucose (PPBG), and HbA1c levels. The experimental group had significantly lower FBG, PPBG, and HbA1c values than the control group (p < 0.05). Participants in the experimental group also reported increased physical activity, greater sleep quality, and lower stress levels, all of which contributed to better metabolic management. Furthermore, prolonged community engagement in yoga classes increased participants' social support and motivation, reinforcing their commitment to healthy lifestyle habits. The data indicate that yoga, as a supplemental therapy, can successfully enhance glycemic control and overall health outcomes in T2DM patients. Sustainable community-based yoga programs can improve patient involvement and health outcomes, providing a cost-effective and culturally appropriate strategy to controlling Type-2 Diabetes Mellitus in rural and resource-limited settings such as Bokajan Block, Karbi Anglong. Further research is needed to determine the long-term advantages and scalability of comparable treatments in other areas
