Effect of FeS modification on the tribological properties of lead-free FeS/Cu–Bi materials
Purpose This study aims to investigate the effect of FeS modification on the tribological properties of lead-free FeS/Cu–Bi materials. Design/methodology/approach Lead-free FeS/Cu–Bi materials were prepared using a powder metallurgy technology. The tribological properties of self-lubricating materials were tested using an M200 ring-block sliding tribometer. SEM, EDS and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were used in characterizing the morphology, elemental composition and frictional chemical reactions of the worn surface, respectively. Wear deformation and stress distribution were analyzed through finite-element simulation. Findings FeS modification reduced the friction coefficient and wear rate of FeS/Cu–Bi materials by 20% and 75%, respectively. FeS modification can reduce interface failure caused by sliding friction and achieve energy dissipation on wear surfaces, preventing local stress concentration. It can also improve the precipitation and migration mode of FeS, maintain the effective supply of FeS to worn surfaces and induce changes in the microstructure and composition of worn surfaces. Originality/value The influence and mechanism of FeS modification on the tribological properties of lead-free FeS/Cu–Bi materials were clarified. This work can serve as a reference for improving material performance and its engineering applications.
