Is It Air? An Unusual Case of Pneumothorax Mimicker
Abstract Pneumothorax is frequently the first diagnosis considered in patients presenting with acute respiratory distress and chest X-ray abnormalities. However, rare conditions that mimic pneumothorax must also be considered, as incorrect diagnoses can result in unsuitable treatment. We report a case of an elderly female who was initially thought to have pneumothorax but was ultimately diagnosed as diaphragmatic hernia. This highlights the necessity for a comprehensive assessment and the exploration of alternative diagnoses in similar clinical scenarios.
