An updated review on transdermal drug delivery systems

The Transdermal Drug Delivery System (TDDS) has become a crucial component of innovative drug delivery systems. In general, any medicine formulation that is applied topically with the goal of releasing the active component into the bloodstream is referred to as a transdermal delivery system. Transdermal drug delivery systems are polymeric formulations that, when applied topically, create systemic effects by delivering the medication across the dermis at a predefined rate. Transdermal dose forms are gaining popularity due to their distinct benefits, while being a more expensive option than traditional formulations. Transdermal medication delivery may have several benefits, including controlled absorption, more consistent plasma levels, enhanced bioavailability, fewer adverse effects, painless and easy application, and the ability to stop drug administration by simply taking the patch off the skin. The creation of a transdermal dosage form with controlled release is a difficult procedure that takes a lot of work. The preparation techniques for several transdermal patch types, evaluation criteria, and a few commercially available items are all covered in this review article.
