Design of Tri-Polarized Microstrip Patch Antenna for X-Band Applications

A tri-polarized microstrip patch antenna operating in the X-band that is specifically suited for applications needing higher gain is designed and simulated. The antenna may produce linear polarization (LP),Circular Polarization(Left hand(LHCP) & Right hand (RHCP)). The design makes use of a 7.1 mm square patch that is affixed to a substrate that is 1.6 mm thick. The main focus of this paper is to design an antenna which is primarily used in Synthetic Aperture Radar(SAR) by reducing interference and boost efficiency, by using a non-contact feed system. With an emphasis on maximizing the antenna's S11 performance and radiation patterns, the design is simulated using HFSS. It produces better gain of 20dB, 12GHz resonant frequency with a bandwidth of 360MHz, consistent polarization, and optimal impedance matching within the X-band frequency range.
