Ab-Initio Investigation of Yttrium-Doped SnS2 Monolayer for Enhanced Gas Sensing in Dissolved Gas Analysis of Electrical Transformers
Effective monitoring of dissolved gases in transformer oil is crucial for detecting faults in electrical transformers at an early stage. Materials with advanced gas-sensing capabilities can significantly improve the precision of dissolved gas analysis (DGA). This research explores the gas-sensing characteristics of Yttrium (Y)-doped SnS2 monolayers using ab-initio methods. By employing Density Functional Theory (DFT), this study investigates the structural, electronic, and adsorption properties of Y-doped SnS2 for key gases associated with transformer diagnostics, including hydrogen (H2), methane (CH4), carbon monoxide (CO), and ethylene (C2H4). The results reveal that Y doping alters the electronic properties of SnS2, enhancing its sensitivity and adsorption performance for these gases. The analysis of adsorption energies, charge transfer, and electronic density of states (DOS) underscores the material's potential as a selective and efficient gas sensor. These findings provide a pathway for designing advanced sensing materials for transformer monitoring and real-time diagnostics.
