A high-precision method of power line 3D reconstruction using binocular depth camera
With the increasing demand for power systems driven by the rise of new energy sources, the need for efficient and safe power line inspection and maintenance has become more critical. This paper presents a novel method for power line inspection and 3D reconstruction using a camera-based approach combined with binocular depth estimation. By capturing RGB images and utilizing the internal and external parameters of the camera, dense point clouds of the power lines are reconstructed. Subsequently, image segmentation algorithms are applied to separate the power lines from the background, and the extracted point cloud data is integrated for 3D reconstruction. Compared to traditional radar-based methods, this approach is more cost-effective and enables real-time 3D reconstruction, offering a faster and more intuitive way for ground maintenance personnel to monitor the power line environment. This innovation significantly enhances the efficiency and safety of power line inspections while reducing the risks associated with maintenance tasks.
