Meta-Material Loaded Tapered Vivaldi Antenna Design for Ka-Band Applications

In this paper, a Tapered Vivaldi Antenna (TVA) is designed and studied for millimeter-wave applications. The proposed TVA design utilizes techniques such as an extended substrate, a multiple-slotted ground structure, and an extended substrate to achieve the desired radiation characteristics in the frequency range from 20 to 30 GHz. The substrate is made of Roger 5880 material, with a permittivity of 2.2 and a loss tangent of 0.0009. A step-by-step approach is used to obtain the final design, while its radiation performance is analysed to meet the desired specifications. The performance of the TVA is enhanced by modifying the slotted ground structure, extending the substrate, and incorporating a metamaterial structure. These modifications show the improvements in return loss, radiation efficiency, and gain. The obtained peak gain of 11.48 dB, and the radiation efficiency of 97.11% at the resonance frequency of 32.48 GHz. The projected antenna is suitable for Ka-band applications.

The obtained peak gain of 11.48 dB, and the radiation efficiency of 97.11% at the resonance frequency of 32.48 GHz. The projected antenna is suitable for Ka-band applications.
