Research of the destroyed stone crypt in the area of st. Miroshnik in Kerch (Northern section of the Panticapaeum necropolis)

This work is devoted to the investigated burial complex, revealed during construction work in the area of Miroshnikova Street (the so-called “Glinischa”) in the city of Kerch, which belongs to the mound-ground necropolis of Panticapaeum. The boundaries of this necropolis on the modern map can only be applied with great convention and assumptions. Numerous burial complexes previously explored on its territory, with rare exceptions, do not have a reliable reference. Since the beginning of the twentieth century, the necropolis turned out to be completely under urban development, which is currently the main problem for the study and preservation of archaeological sites in this territory of the little-studied northern section of the necropolis of the capital of the Ancient Bosporus. During the construction of a strip foundation trench, the remains of a stone crypt were found in the process of construction work on a private plot. The material discovered during the clearing process can be dated to the 2nd (se cond half) - beginning (or first half) of the 4th centuries AD and serve as a vivid example of the Bosporan burial tradition of the Roman time. The anthropological material, although it is scattered bones, belonged to at least 97 individuals. The crypt, built for the burial of a fairly noble or wealthy person (or persons), was later used, probably, as a tomb for representatives of one of the numerous civil-religious or religious-professional associations (fiasi) of Panticapaeum.
