Excavations of the “tower” on Mount Mikhalkin or unfulfilled hopes
Excavations on one of the most conspicuous hills in the northeastern part of the Kerch Peninsula confirmed the presence of a small monument of ancient times here, unfortunately, almost completely destroyed in ancient times. Apparently, it was a watchtower, a signal tower or even a fort built under the Bosporan ruler Asandra at the beginning of the second half of the 1st century BC. Judging by the rather numerous, albeit uninformative finds (fragments of tiles, amphora containers, to a lesser extent – simple and red-lacquer dishes), this object, the layout and dimensions of which could not be identified, lasted until the end of the 1st century AD and, perhaps, a little longer.
