Truth as Univocal Designation

Abstract Moritz Schlick defined truth as univocal designation. This definition puzzled his followers and exegetes. In this article, I intend to clarify Schlick’s definition and examine his argument for it. I will argue that the motivation for as well as the problems of Schlick’s definition become clear if one sees it as flowing from his Helmholtzian view of scientific representation.
