The Neurath-Haller Thesis and the Return of Analytic Philosophy to Austria
Abstract Two points are argued for. The first is that the Neurath-Haller thesis tends to be criticised for contentions far more extreme than those its advocates asserted. The second is that advocacy of the thesis has to be considered in its historical context. It is a consequence of the first point that numerous supposed refutations of the Neurath-Haller thesis are rendered void by refinements, some of which it has received long ago. It is a consequence of the second point that the thesis has not yet outlived its significance, despite the further modifications it requires.
