Cold‐Plasma Oxidative Nitrogen Fixation: Dinitrogen Pentoxide Calibration, Product Mode Shift and Evaluation on Nitrate‐Group Nitrogen (NGN) Production

ABSTRACT N 2 O 5 often exists in cold‐plasma oxidative nitrogen fixation, but its real‐time quantification is still unsolved. Herein, we report N 2 O 5 calibration for real‐time quantification, product mode shift and nitrate‐group nitrogen (NGN) evaluation in dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma. At specific energy input ( SEI ) of ~13 kJ/mol with gas temperature ( T g ) of ~440 K, NO x Mode, N 2 O 5 Mode and their coexistence occur at N 2 contents of 80%, 10% and 50%, respectively. In particular, at SEI of ~5kJ/mol with ~380 K T g , N 2 O 5 Mode is always maintained and independent of N 2 content. The NGN production rate peaks at 50% N 2 or a little higher. The underlying positive and negative roles for changing flow rate in NGN production are disclosed.
