Cationic Conductivity of Sulfolane Solutions of Lithium Salts

The effect of the concentration of lithium salt sulfolane solutions (LiN(SO2CF3)2, LiBF4, LiClO4, and LiSO3CF3) on their cationic conductivity has been studied. The cationic conductivity of lithium salt solutions was calculated as the product of the specific ionic conductivity by the effective transference number of the lithium cation. The effective transference numbers of the lithium cation were determined in symmetric Li-Li two-electrode cells by the Vincent-Bruce method. The effective transference numbers of the lithium cation were found to increase linearly with increasing concentration of lithium salts in sulfolane. It is suggested that the increase in the effective transference numbers of lithium cation with increasing concentration of solutions is caused by the increase in lithium cation mobility as a result of the increase in the contribution of the hopping mechanism of transfer. It is shown that the differences in specific ionic and specific cationic conductivity decrease with increasing concentration of sulfolane solutions of lithium salts.
