Geospatial Analysis of Cyber Attacks on Transportation Systems

As transportation systems become more integrated with digital technologies, they face an increasing threat from cyberattacks that can disrupt operations, compromise safety, and lead to significant financial losses. This paper explores the growing vulnerability of transportation systems to cyberattacks, with a specific focus on the role of geospatial analysis in identifying, monitoring, and mitigating these threats. By leveraging technologies such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS), machine learning, and spatial data mining, geospatial analysis offers valuable tools for tracking the spatial dynamics of cyber threats. This paper provides an overview of common types of cyberattacks, including ransomware, denial of service (DoS), GPS spoofing, and data breaches, and discusses the potential consequences for transportation networks. Additionally, it highlights the application of geospatial data in predicting attack hotspots, identifying vulnerable infrastructure, and enhancing incident response. Through case studies and practical examples, the research demonstrates how geospatial analysis can strengthen cybersecurity efforts in transportation systems, while addressing challenges such as data availability, scalability, and privacy concerns. The paper concludes with recommendations for future research and technological advancements to improve the resilience of transportation networks against cyber threats.
