On the Influence of the Water Level in Lake Baikal on Seismic Activity in the Pribaikalye Region

The seismic activity of the Baikal region is influenced by a large number of factors of different nature. Statistical analysis of the dynamics of seismic events and the water level in Lake Baikal has shown that there is a definite relationship between these events. Increasing the rate of change in the water level produces a trigger effect, releasing seismic energy. This statistical relationship is observed not only in the area of the lake itself, but also in the northeastern and southwestern sectors of the Baikal rift zone.
