Areálový obraz nářečí českého jazyka: výzkum, metody, mapování a výstupy
The paper presents seventy years of activity of the Department of Dialectology of the Czech Language Institut of the Czech Academy of Sciences with a focus on the linguistic and geographical processing of dialectal material. It gives an overview of the methods applied in its collection and mapping. The individual stages of research on Czech dialects – indirect research carried out in 1947–1958 and direct research in 1964–1976 – and their results are presented. Different cartographic methods and their combinations were used to depict dialectal phenomena. Attention is paid to the most comprehensive output of Czech dialectologists to date – the six-volume Czech Linguistic Atlas (1992–2011), containing almost 1600 maps and commentaries. A new stage in the processing of Czech dialectal material is dialectological-geoinformatics cooperation; the result is, among other things, several volumes of the Atlas of Czech Dialects, presenting dialectal material using new, modern methods. The participation of Czech dialectologists in international projects is also presented, namely in the Carpathian Linguistic Atlas (Общекарпатский диалектологический атлас), the Slavic Linguistic Atlas (Общеcлавянский лингвистический атлас) and the Linguistic Atlas of Europe (Atlas Linguarum Europae).
