Constantin Isopescu-Grecu – o cuvântare edificatoare pentru înțelegerea evenimentelor istorice din octombrie 1918

By publishing translations of speeches given by Bukovinian deputies in the Cisleithanian Parliament in the “Annals of Bukovina”, we aimed to explore the usefulness of translating historical sources for the objectification of historiographical research results. In the 2021 issues of the “Annals of Bukovina”, we published speeches delivered by two Bukovinian deputies in the Cisleithanian Parliament (Aurel Onciul and George Grigorovici), along with interpretations and comments, expressing our hope that our translations “would bring fresh air into Romanian historiography and contribute to transforming the nebulous—comprising interpretations of various attitudes and behaviors, phenomena and processes, happenings and events from the First World War and around the time of Bukovina's union with Romania—into an ordered system that objectively reflects how and under what impulses the protagonists acted”. In this paper, we include the translation of the speech from October 22, 1918, delivered by Constantin Isopescu-Grecul, an important social, cultural, and political figure who, through his knowledge and actions, had a positive impact in Bukovina both before and after the union with Romania.
