Rolul presei din Bucovina în înființarea cabinetelor de lectură și a societăților de citire și promovarea activităților culturale
Between the years 1880 and 1918, the press in Bukovina played an important role in the establishment and organization of reading rooms, encouraging the cultural development of Bukovinian villages. Newspapers and magazines in the Romanian language in Bukovina, with various sections such as “Small News”, “Folk Celebrations”, “Life of Societies”, “Information”, and “From the Villages”, provided readers with information in the social, cultural, economic, and educational domains. They published announcements and articles about the founding and functioning of reading rooms and literary societies, invitations and information about cultural activities including folk celebrations and other events. They also published articles with many details about the general assemblies organized by reading rooms and literary societies, some statutes of these societies, and speeches by personalities regarding the promotion of reading rooms, supporting their activities with libraries. Through the published articles, announcements, news, and invitations, the editorial offices informed readers, members, and the general public about the activities in reading rooms, successfully promoting the cultural activities organized by these and other literary societies, making them known in the community, and attracting as many people as possible from the village.
