CURRENT TRENDS IN COMMODITY RESEARCH IN TIMES OF WAR

In the article, the concept of the impact of the ongoing war in Ukraine on commodity science is discussed in detail, focusing on the changing characteristics of goods, their evaluation, and shifts in consumer preferences. The study analyzes how the war has disrupted traditional supply chains, led to the reduction of imports, and caused price hikes, forcing businesses to adapt and search for alternative ways to ensure the stability of demand. The conflict has also brought forth new consumer priorities, including safety, reliability, and durability of products. The article highlights the significant changes in quality control methods, which have become more stringent to guarantee product safety and suitability in crisis conditions. The author explores how the shift in demand for essential goods has accelerated, with an emphasis on products necessary for survival and those that can function in extreme conditions. As Ukraine’s internal production gains more prominence due to the disruption of international supply lines, the article outlines the emerging trends in domestic manufacturing, which has become vital for the economy’s stability. Additionally, the paper discusses the modification of evaluation methods, emphasizing the necessity for goods to meet new consumer expectations, particularly in terms of resilience and long shelf life. Special attention is given to the growing need for energy-efficient products, long-lasting goods, and those that offer self-sufficiency, such as solar panels, generators, and mobile power sources. In parallel, the article notes the increasing consumer preference for functional, reliable, and repairable products, reflecting the economic uncertainties and the need for rational consumption. The article concludes by pointing out that Ukrainian companies, despite the challenging environment, have shown resilience and capacity for adaptation, with a focus on ensuring high-quality goods that meet new market demands. In the long run, the article stresses the importance of continuously improving commodity science to respond to the ever-changing conditions brought about by the war, fostering technological innovations, and bolstering domestic production to maintain economic stability and consumer satisfaction.
