Nematicide and Cotton Variety Combinations for Managing Reniform Nematodes in North Alabama, 2024
Reniform nematode disease, caused by Rotylenchulus reniformis, is a significant threat to cotton production, reducing plant vigor and yield. Symptoms include stunted growth, reduced biomass, and lower seed cotton yields due to nematode feeding on roots. This study evaluated the efficacy of nematicides (Velum and AgLogic) and insecticides (Gaucho and Admire Pro) in managing reniform nematodes. The trial was conducted in 2024 at Auburn University's Tennessee Valley Research and Extension Center near Belle Mina, AL, on cotton ( Gossypium hirsutum) cultivars DP 2131 B3TXF and DP 1646 B2XF. Findings highlight the potential of nematicides to mitigate reniform nematode damage, supporting sustainable cotton production and improved grower profitability.
