SWOT Analysis in the Strategy for Developing Mechanical Aptitude Tests to Enhance Welding Competency

Mechanical aptitude tests are essential instruments for measuring an individual's potential in technical fields, particularly welding. The development of these tests aims to enhance the effectiveness of training and certification in welding competency. This study employs a SWOT analysis to evaluate internal factors (strengths and weaknesses) and external factors (opportunities and threats) that influence the implementation of mechanical aptitude tests. Using score-based SWOT analysis, this study finds that the development of mechanical aptitude tests for improving welding competency falls into Quadrant I (Aggressive), indicating that the best strategy is to leverage strengths to seize available opportunities. The quantitative SWOT graph places the strategic position at coordinates (2.77, 2.32), supporting the development of VR-based solutions as an innovative approach in welding training. Based on the quantitative analysis, the recommended strategies include optimizing technology, collaborating with industries, and refining assessment standards to improve the effectiveness of mechanical aptitude tests.
