Extended Long Range Encrypted Wireless Mesh Communication Without Cellular Network
This paper introduces an advanced communication system leveraging Long Range (LoRa) technology, customized for hilly terrains devoid of cellular network coverage, catering to specific military operational needs. The system facilitates long-range wireless communication transmitting, text, images and sensor data. The research demonstrates the efficacy of employing multi-hop communication, where in our case two repeaters are strategically positioned to extend the communication range. Insights into the data size-reliability trade-off in LoRa communication are provided. A robust algorithm has been developed to transmit images without loss of any packet in a multihop environment. Experimental tests have revealed a communication range of up to 10.5 km, when transmitting text packets ranging from 5 to 200 bytes. The range of RSSI is around -130 dBm to -142 dBm with an SNR of approximately - 20 dB to -50 dB. As the size of the data increases the time it takes for the information to reach its destination also increases. Nevertheless, our system demonstrates good efficiency in swiftly delivering 3 kb images within few minutes to the intended receiver with a data rate of 0.3 kilobytes per second.
