Low Loss Asymmetrical Slotted Dual-Core PCF based SPR Biosensor for Enhanced Sensitivity

This work proposes a novel dual-core photonic crystal fibre (PCF) biosensor based on surface plasmon resonance (SPR) for exceptional sensitivity in refractive index (RI) detection within a range of 1.31 to 1.43. The Finite Element Method (FEM) is used for sensitivity analysis, resulting in a maximum wavelength sensitivity of 88,000 nm/RIU and a maximum amplitude sensitivity of $1483.63\ \mathrm{RIU}^{-1}$. The remarkable wavelength resolution of $1.14 \times 10^{-06}$ RIU signifies its potential for exact RI measurements. Furthermore, the sensor exhibits low propagation loss and incorporates a simple geometry defining the cores, facilitating potential fabrication using established techniques. This combination of high sensitivity, better resolution, low loss, and fabrication feasibility makes the proposed sensor a promising candidate for various bio-detection applications demanding accurate and delicate analyte identification. The dual-core configuration offers exciting possibilities for further exploration, paving the way for its potential application in diverse bio-detection fields.
