Low-Cost Semi-Hard Material in High-Speed 6/2 Switched Reluctance Motor for Eliminate Torque Dead-Zone and Torque Enhancement
The materials perspective of electric machines can be enhanced by addressing challenges such as demagnetization of permanent magnets due to high temperatures in high-speed applications and the potential benefits of soft magnetic materials. The implementation of semihard magnetic materials on the rotor of the switched reluctance motor has led to the development of a novel topology that is capable of functioning at 24,000 rpm, as demonstrated in this paper. The topology is designed with the objective of reducing stator core losses while maximizing average and peak torques at high speeds, with the ultimate goal of achieving high efficiency. The design of the switched reluctance motor, including the core loss model, the stator design, and the innovative rotor design, is presented in full detail. Dynamic calculations are performed using the Jiles-Atherton method for the hysteresis loop. The finite element method is used to obtain the electromagnetic characteristics of the studied motor. The effectiveness of the proposed strategy is verified by identifying the contributions of the hysteresis and reluctance moments in the new switched reluctance motor.
