Voltage Stability Analysis of Distribution Network Using Artificial Neural Network

The power distribution networks are continuously subjected to voltage fluctuations and stability issues such that the need for a competent strategy for predicting the stability status has become crucial for the smooth functioning of the power system. In this paper, an artificial neural network based modal analysis technique is proposed to enhance the conventional voltage stability methods by reducing the huge computations involved and making them time efficient and capable of real-time applications. The proposal is validated by testing in IEEE 15 and 33 bus radial distribution networks. The results obtained show a promising application of machine learning based voltage stability prediction.

Abstract

The power distribution networks are continuously subjected to voltage fluctuations and stability issues such that the need for a competent strategy for predicting the stability status has become crucial for the smooth functioning of the power system. In this paper, an artificial neural network based modal analysis technique is proposed to enhance the conventional voltage stability methods by reducing the huge computations involved and making them time efficient and capable of real-time applications. The proposal is validated by testing in IEEE 15 and 33 bus radial distribution networks. The results obtained show a promising application of machine learning based voltage stability prediction.
