Morphological Diversity and Relationships among Butterfly Pea (<i>Clitoria ternatea</i>) Accessions in Bogor
Abstract Indonesia is one of the most biodiverse countries in the world, hosting an extraordinary variety of flora and fauna. Among its rich plant life, the butterfly pea ( Clitoria ternatea ) is an endemic species native to Ternate Island in the East Indonesian region. This plant thrives in wild, humid environments and has since spread widely across the Indonesian archipelago, from Aceh to Papua, flourishing in various natural habitats. Traditionally, it holds significant value for local communities, being used for its medicinal properties and as a natural dye. This study aimed to investigate the morphological diversity and kinship relationships of eight C. ternatea accessions. The research was conducted in the greenhouse of the Indonesian Medicinal and Spices Crop Research Institute, Bogor, in 2020. Both qualitative and quantitative data on morphological characteristics were collected and analyzed using Excel software and the PBSTAT website. The results revealed notable morphological variations among the eight accessions, which were grouped into two main phylogenetic clusters. The first cluster included accessions with white double petals, white single petals, light blue single petals, and dark blue single petals. The second cluster comprised accessions with light blue double petals, dark blue double petals, purple double petals, and purple single petals.
