The role of memorizing the Holy Quran in developing morphological awareness among third grade elementary students

The current study aimed to identify the role of memorizing the Holy Quran in developing morphological awareness among third grade elementary students. It also sought to reveal the significance of differences between the average scores of students who memorized the Holy Quran in the morphological awareness test attributed to the gender variable. The researchers used the comparative causal approach as it is the most appropriate methodology for this study. The study sample consisted of 64 male and female students out of 412 students from the third grade of elementary school, and the sample was chosen randomly. The individuals were classified into two groups: a group that memorized Juz' Amma (the last part of the Holy Quran) consisting of 32 male and female students, and a group that did not memorize, consisting of 32 male and female students. To achieve the research objectives, the researchers relied on the non-verbal Raven test, which measures thinking ability and general intelligence (Bouma et al, 1996), and the Khomsi test for evaluating oral language (ELO), which is characterized by its ability to accurately describe and evaluate various elements of linguistic competence, including morphological awareness, which was adapted to the Arabic language and practiced in the Algerian environment by researcher (Dalila Addi, 2017). The validity and reliability of both tests were verified, and after processing the data, the study concluded that memorizing the Holy Quran plays a significant role in developing morphological awareness among third grade elementary students. The study also found statistically significant differences at the significance level of 0.01 between the average scores of students who memorized the Holy Quran in the morphological awareness test attributed to the gender variable in favor of females.

The current study aimed to identify the role of memorizing the Holy Quran in developing morphological awareness among third grade elementary students. It also sought to reveal the significance of differences between the average scores of students who memorized the Holy Quran in the morphological awareness test attributed to the gender variable.
