Revisão catalográfica e trânsitos classificatórios no acervo do Museu Afro Brasil Emanoel Araujo: as obras de Mestre Didi

The present article, written in partnership between the Research and Safeguard Centers of the Museu Afro Brasil, aims to discuss the ongoing catalog revision process of the museum’s collection. From an interdisciplinary perspective, this article seeks to emphasize how this activity should be guided by the dialogue between information representation and artistic-social aspects, especially since it is a collection focused on African and Afro-Brazilian arts - works that historically transited on the margins of conventionalized classifications based on Euro-American collection and exhibition bases. As a thought-provoking example, the article presents the case of the artist Mestre Didi – who has pieces in the collection of the Museu Afro Brasil – and the instituted conflicts about the classification of his works in the museum space.
