An EMAT inspection technique based on self-driven internal detectors for industrial pipelines

Abstract Industrial pipelines are widely used and subjected to complex detection conditions, facing corrosion and metal loss defects. There is an urgent need for a suitable technology to continuously detect pipeline wall thickness. This paper researches electromagnetic ultrasonic detection technology that a self-driven internal detector can use. It analyzes the electromagnetic ultrasonic detection principle based on the self-driven internal detection scene of industrial pipelines, conducts multi-physical field finite element simulation, designs and realizes the electromagnetic ultrasonic technology on the self-driven internal detector of industrial pipelines, and performs performance tests in the laboratory as well as on-site application tests. Finally, it completes the development of electromagnetic ultrasonic detection technology based on the self-driven internal detector of industrial pipelines. This development provides a crucial guarantee for the safe operation of oil and gas pipelines by enabling continuous, non-contact, and rapid inspection of pipeline wall thickness.
