Application of multichannel fluorescence signal processing for oil detection in water

Abstract In-situ fluorescence sensors, known for their inexpensive and rapid analysis capability, are widely used for oil detection in water. However, the presence of Colored Dissolved Organic Matter (CDOM), such as humic substances and protein-like materials, overlaps with the oil fluorescence spectrum, leading to interference and inaccurate results. This study presents a precise method for measuring oil content in water using multichannel LED-induced fluorescence detection. A mixed solution of quinine sulfate and sodium 1,5-naphthalene disulfonate was used as the oil simulant. Through multichannel signal processing, the accuracy of sample concentration detection can be greatly improved. The results show that this method eliminates interference from major fluorescence contaminants, with spiked recovery rates between 92.5% and 99.7%. This approach offers a novel solution for accurate oil measurement in water and has promising future applications.
