Performance comparison of contra-rotating flux modulated machine with consequent pole configuration
In order to utilize the maximum efficiency of wind energy, the inner stator (IS), outer stator (OS), and inner stator consequent pole (ISCP) configurations of integrated flux modulated machine (IFMM) are compared in this paper based on the finite element analysis (FEA). To achieve more power compared to conventional machines, the IFMM consists of two rotors connected to two contra-rotating wind turbine blades, and two sets of decoupled winding exist on the stator due to which the control complexity reduces. This study analyses the electromagnetic performance comparison in terms of back-emf, flux linkage, cogging torque, Load torque, output power, and efficiency on OS-IFMM, CP-IFMM, and IS-IFMM. The results indicate that IS-IFMM machines exhibit high torque and output power, but in terms of cost, the CP-IFMM machine is a better candidate for wind power generation.
