Stable 2-tert-butyl,1-4 benzoquinone based organic anode for lithium-ion batteries

Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) are increasingly acknowledged as up-and-coming contenders for large-scale energy storage applications owing to their superior energy density and exceptional efficiency. However, conventional anode materials' relatively low specific capacity and poor cycling stability hinder their broader adoption in these applications. In this context, organic molecules, with their tunable structures and potential for high-energy storage, present a promising alternative to conventional materials. In this investigation, we report the synthesis and electrochemical characteristics of a nitrogen-enriched organic polymer that integrates benzoquinone and melamine units (BQM). The BQM/g-C3N4 polymer demonstrates exceptional electrochemical properties with high cycling stability. Precisely, the anodic half-cell based on BQM/g-C3N4 delivers a specific capacity of 1100 mAh/g at a current density of 50 mA/g after 200 cycles, highlighting its remarkable cycling stability. This work opens up new avenues for organic polymer-based anode materials and paves the way for further developing advanced and sustainable energy storage systems.
