Systematic review on the design and implementation of the braille system on packaging
The objective of this RSL is to analyze the impact of the Braille system on packaging design to improve accessibility and autonomy for people with visual impairments. The methodology was based on four PICO questions focused on identifying the difficulties faced by these people, the technologies used, the contexts of application and the benefits to their quality of life. A PRISMA protocol was applied for the selection of studies, resulting in 28 relevant investigations. The results indicate that the Braille system, combined with advanced technologies such as IoT, NFC and 3D models, has allowed greater autonomy in the interaction with consumer products. However, technical problems were detected such as low quality in Braille prints, user mistrust and negative perceptions in some cases. Likewise, limitations are observed in the uniformity of Braille implementation and unequal access to advanced technologies, especially in regions with limited resources. It is concluded that the Braille system represents a significant advance in accessibility. However, more comprehensive, cost-effective and adaptable solutions are required to encourage mass adoption and ensure their effectiveness, especially in public environments and less technologically advanced communities.
